Gitwangak Water System UpdateAugust 4, 2026 Gitwangak Public Works is responding to a water pressure and supply issue this morning. The water reservoir level has dropped significantly, and crews are currently testing the pumps, electrical system, controls, and water lines to identify the cause. Please conserve water immediately. Use water only for drinking, food preparation, and essential sanitation. Please pause laundry, vehicle washing, outdoor watering, filling bathtubs, and other high-volume water use until further notice. Residents are also asked to shut off their hot water tanks until the water supply is restored. This will help protect hot water tanks from damage if they lose their water supply. For an electric hot water tank, switch off the dedicated breaker marked “hot water tank” or “water heater.” For a gas or propane hot water tank, follow the manufacturer’s shutdown instructions. Please do not turn the tank back on until water service has been restored and the tank is confirmed to be full. Residents who require assistance shutting off their hot water tank can call the Gitwangak Band Office at 250-849-5591.
